"CH-CH Inspired Me To Fight For Change"

Inspired by her math and science classes at CH-CH, Juliette Dent ‘16 graduated with determination to pursue a career in global public health. Juliette continues to draw on the self-advocacy and academic confidence she gained at CH-CH as she heads into the remaining semesters of college, eager to begin making a full-time difference in health care accessibility.

Juliette Dent ‘16 spent her summer in New Delhi, India, through the Global Public Health Program at Quinnipiac University. While in India, Juliette worked for non-profit organizations addressing primary health concerns affecting many communities such as open deification, maternal health mortality rates, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

“In my four weeks abroad, I met so many incredible people and learned the fundamental basics to global research and health promotion.”

Looking back, Juliette gives credit to CH-CH for sparking her interest in health science. “I fostered my passion for health science in Mrs. Orban’s Anatomy and Physiology class my senior year,” she noted. “Mrs. Orban is truly the reason why I pursued a career in the healthcare field.”

The health-centered spark continued during Juliette’s freshman year at Quinnipiac University. Soon enough, she obtained a global public health concentration and felt fully prepared to tackle the challenging required courses it entailed because of the academic skills and strategies she obtained in high school.

“A huge component of public health is biostatistics,” the CH-CH alumna said. “In Mr. Bailey’s statistics class at CH-CH, I learned key concepts which served as a great foundation as I enrolled in higher-level statistics courses at Quinnipiac.” Another aspect of public health is policy and regulation, which initially made Juliette quite nervous. “At first, I was intimidated to take political science courses, but I was well prepared due to the AP US Government and Politics class at CH-CH.”

“Hearing that one of my former students is out in the world fighting for change, especially because she attributes her passion for healthcare to taking my class, literally brings tears to my eyes,” exclaimed CH-CH Anatomy and Physiology teacher Sarah Orban. “As I sit down to start preparing for my 11th year at CH-CH, this reinforces why I dedicate so much time and effort to teaching, and truly love what I do!”
