Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School (CH-CH), marked a significant milestone in its history by opening the doors to a new Middle School to start the 2023-2024 school year. This expansion represents an exciting chapter in the school's legacy, reaffirming its dedication to providing a well-rounded education to students.
"This is a historic moment for CH-CH,” said Dr. Lance Conrad, the Head of School. “We have been hearing from parents and students for years that middle school students need a place that offers the support, challenge, and engagement that CH-CH has offered for nearly two hundred years.”
CH-CH’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education is reflected in its comprehensive curriculum. Students in the Middle School engage in a creative, thoughtful, and integrated curriculum in mathematics, science, humanities, and the arts. The aim is to prepare students for high school while fostering critical thinking skills and a passion for learning.
Kelly Walsh, the Middle School Head of School, emphasized the importance that fun plays in this expansion. "Many of us don’t think too fondly of our middle school years, but with the CH-CH curriculum, this has been a fun and energetic experience, and our goal is for students to look forward to getting to school each morning!" she stated.
The Middle School division at CH-CH is not just about academics; it also emphasizes character development, community engagement, and leadership. Students are participating in a wide range of extracurricular activities, from sports teams to clubs and community service projects. This holistic approach to education aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who are discovering their passions and building their confidence along the way.
“It has been exciting to experience all the ‘firsts’: classes, assembly, announcement by 8th grader, club hosted by 8th grader, field trip, soccer game, cross country race, History presentation, Science lab, and more,” said Walsh. “We are all so excited to witness the growth and achievements of this class and the future classes of CH-CH Middle School students.”
