"Today is going to be a stressful day, and I know for a fact that there is going to be tension and anxiety, but I want to propose a kind of goal for all of us.

Regardless of the election results, regardless of how far gone everything is, I’d like to propose that we all commit to acting with empathy and compassion for everyone around us...and to ourselves.

I know the pandemic has been a crazy time for all of us. And though it seems like things keep getting more and more hectic, now more than ever, it’s important for each of us to be kind and caring towards everyone.

You don’t have to agree with everyone, but I implore you all to try to see the situation from others’ perspectives, to talk rationally and reasonably about your issues. Don’t project anything onto them, and check them if they try to project anything onto you. Because ultimately it’s all about understanding.

Remember that however much you disagree with, and perhaps don’t particularly like this person, they too are human. They have emotions, and regrets, and may not have honed their emotional intelligence, so try to refrain from blaming them, and instead work towards coming together."
