To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s call to service, CH-CH students continued the tradition of creating and leading MLK workshops to bring diversity and inclusion to the forefront, while giving their peers opportunities to understand experiences different from their own.
When students at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School were given the freedom to create their own lesson plans for Diversity Day workshops, 16 individuals and groups came together to lead rich workshops designed to educate our community on a wide range of topics.
In the spring of 2016, the Visual and Performing Art (VPA) department launched the “Campus as Canvas” program at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School. The concept behind the program was to find ways to use the School’s campus to help facilitate learning, beautify the campus, and show the diverse culture that CH-CH fosters. The Campus as Canvas program is meant to demonstrate the School’s support of the arts through enhancing and expanding the visual art spaces on campus. With three installations complete, CH-CH is excited to begin work on the fourth with the esteemed local metal fabricator and artist, Alaina Mahoney.
As I fly over the Arctic Circle en route to mainland China to visit our Chinese families and students, I think about how we at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall have re-imagined our approaches to connecting with our current and prospective Chinese families.
Flag Day is a tradition at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall that dates back as long as most people can remember. Each year, students choose a flag with meaning to them and ceremonially present it to the CH-CH community with a speech about their connection to it.
