On Tuesday, May 21st, Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School ceremoniously broke ground on their newest teaching and learning space. The 4,000+ square-foot academic building will include indoor and outdoor space that will connect the classroom to nature. It will also include a solar array, and environmental improvements to the Chester Brook.
This project embraces CH-CH’s call to re-imagine, repurpose, and rebuild to enhance the student experience by aligning campus facilities to all aspects of their differentiated approach to teaching and learning.

The CH-CH community gathered in front of the current Atwood Building on the North Quad for the groundbreaking ceremony. In addition to the students, Waltham Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy. “[CH-CH] is a great school with a beautiful campus,” said Mayor McCarthy. “They continue to improve the [Chester] brook and improve the educational experience. I’m very excited for this new building.”

Speakers at the groundbreaking included Chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Bob Donnelly P’24; from Delphi Construction, based in Waltham, President Keith Shaw; co-chairs of the Campaign Committee, as well as parents of alumni, Trustees Joe Cannistraro P’22 and Laura Cabot Carrigan P’19; and the long-serving Head of School, Lance Conrad, Ed.D.

“Thank you for joining us on this gorgeous spring afternoon as we celebrate the groundbreaking for a re-imagined teaching and learning space to replace Atwood, the primary home of our Grade 9 classrooms,” said Conrad. “We’ve assembled an amazing team for this project, from conceptualization to design to construction to fundraising and financing. I want to thank everyone who has a hand in enabling the School to reach this milestone in the re-imagination of this critical teaching and learning space.”

Chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Bob Donnelly P’24, emphasized how this new teaching and learning space ties to CH-CH’s mission, “CH-CH gives students multiple paths to achieve their success,” said Donnelly. “This new space doesn’t just elevate the academic experience, it elevates the CH-CH experience for all.”
CH-CH has achieved this milestone thanks to the generous support of its community through the Growing Minds, Growing Community campaign which has raised over $1.9M to date.
President of Delphi Construction, Keith Shaw, expressed excitement in turning the School’s vision into reality. “The relationship we built during that project has continued over the last five years and we appreciate the opportunity to now support the school’s vision of the Growing Minds, Growing Community campaign and the construction of the Atwood building,” said Shaw. “CH-CH has a long history of helping their students achieve their best and helping them prepare for a lifetime of meaningful engagement with the broader world.”
